Staff Reporter: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in London on a ten-day official visit. The Prime Minister left Dhaka for London at 9:15 am in the morning on Wednesday. A special flight of Bangladesh Biman carrying her in London’s Heathrow Airport at local time 3.55pm on Wednesday.
Bangladesh High Commissioner in Britain Saeeda Muna Tasnim and high commission officials welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport. Besides, leaders of the UK Awami League were present at Heathrow Airport. Meanwhile, the leaders of the UK BNP-Jamaat-Shibir activists protested on the occasion of Sheikh Hasina’s arrival, at the Heathrow airport.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Prime Minister’s Private Industries and Investment Advisor Salman F Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam are with Hasina on this tour. In the afternoon, when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived at Heathrow Airport and the UK Awami League activists gathered outside to welcome her.
During this time, BNP and Jamaat-Shibir activists led by the President of the UK BNP MA Malek started chanting slogans against Hasina. At one stage, when the Awami League leader’s staff came forward to resist the protesters the British police stopped them. The British police said that it is their responsibility to protect the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. And those who are protesting are also exercising their democratic rights. With the intention avoiding any clashes between the leaders and activists of Awami League and the BNP -Jamaat-Shibir leaders, police forced the two parties to stay on two separate sides of the road. But BNP leader workers ignored the police order and threw eggs and water bottles in the prime minister’s car.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went straight to the Taj Hotel in Central London from the airport. The senior leaders of the UK Awami League met her there. UK Awami League’s General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruque said the Prime Minister has urged party leaders to work sincerely in celebrating the Mujib year. The Prime Minister also urged expatriate leaders to convey the struggles and life of Bangabandhu among expatriate new generation Bangladeshis.
This time the UK Awami League leaders gave a floral reception to the Prime Minister under the leadership of UK Awami League President Sultan Mahmud Sharif and General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruque. Several Awami League leaders including Hormuz Ali, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury, MA Rahim and others were present at the time.
It is known that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will spend time with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana’s family in London during this tour. Besides, her daughter Saima Wajed Putul, son Sajib Wazed Joy and his wife and children are staying in London. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also hold a high level bilateral private state meeting, including her eye treatment and family time.
Sheikh Rehana’s daughter British MP Tulip Siddique became the mother of the second child in January. The grandmother Sheikh Hasina will be meeting with her grandson for the time. Tulip has named her son of Rafael Mujib St. John Parsi, in line with his grandfather Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. And the elder daughter Ajlia Joy Parsi turned three in this month.
